Before downloading your textbook:

1. Download Adobe Digital Editions by choosing the 'Windows' link

2. Install Adobe Digital Editions

  • Tick the checkbox to accept the license agreement, click on the Next button twice to install
  • Unitck the option for Norton Security Scan, click Next 
  • Click the Close button once the install is completed

3. Open Adobe Digital Editions

4. Click on Help and select Authorize computer...

5. Enter your Adobe ID (the email address you used to create your Adobe ID) and password



Note: This is NOT your WesternAccount login, but an ID you need to create using the Create an Adobe ID link (circled above). For further information regarding Adobe IDs, please visit the Adobe website.

6. Click Authorize


Download your textbook:

1. Go to your textbook via the link provided (Go to the 'Readings and Resources' link from the left hand side menu in your unit vUWS page)

2. Click on Download Book

3. Click Continue

4. Enter your WesternAccount ID and password (NOT your Adobe ID) if/ when prompted and click Submit

5. In the popup window (Step 1. Device), choose Laptop Desktop

6. Select I'm using my own computer, click on Continue

7. The next window (Step 2. Install) will say that you need Adobe Digital Editions, click Done with this step>

8. Click Download (Step 3. Download)

9. Click Save File (Remember to take note of the name and location of the file)


Opening your textbook:

1. Go back to Adobe Digital Editions

2. Click File and select Add to Library

3. Browse for the downloaded file. If the file you downloaded is a Adobe Content Server Message (.acsm) file, you will need to select the file type in the drop down menu, located in the bottom right hand corner of the window



4. Once you have located the file, select it and click Open

5. The file will begin to download (this may take a few minutes)

6. Your textbook will open

7. When you are finished reading, click on Library in the top left hand corner

8. This will display all the books you have downloaded in your Library, so every additional textbook you download will appear here
