To access the full functionality of Library e-Resources, you will need to enable the following internet settings. Access to Library resources would be severely limited or not possible without making these changes.
If accessing from a workplace see: Firewall and anti-virus software on your machine or network
The instructions below are for the most common configurations for Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Clearing the cache
These problems are often caused by your browser calling up old information from your cache or cookie folder. Clearing them usually solves the problem.
In most web browsers you can clear the cache, cookies and history by simultaneously pressing Ctrl + Shift + Delete on Windows and Command + Shift + Delete on Mac.
If this does not resolve the issue, please refer to the detailed instructions below for your browser:
Enabling Cookies
You may need to enable cookies on your browser.

- From the browser menu bar, select Menu (top right corner of browser) > Settings
- Select Cookies and site permissions
- Under Cookies and data stored > select Manage and delete cookies and site data
- Click the button to 'Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended)'.
Instructions for other versions can be found using the search box on the Windows Website.

- Select Cookies and site permissions
- Under Allowing permissions > select JavaScript
- Click the button alongside 'Allowed (recommended)' to enable this setting.
Firefox
In Firefox, JavaScript is enabled by default. If it has been disabled, refer to the Firefox website for detailed instructions.

Enabling pop-up windows
Some databases require the use of pop-up windows to deliver information. By default, pop-up blocking functions are included in some anti-virus, internet security, personal firewall, and browser programs. These need to be either turned off (so that pop-ups are accepted) or set to allow pop-ups from database sites.
Unfortunately, the Library cannot provide information for all available pop-up blocking software. Some common blockers and how to alter the settings are provided below.
- Microsoft Edge
Open Microsoft Edge > go to Menu > Settings > Cookies and site permissions > select 'Pop-ups and redirects'.
Turn off 'Block (recommended)' setting or under 'Allow', input the details for individual sites for which pop-ups are permitted. - Google toolbar
Please refer to the instructions available from the Chrome Help page. - Firefox
Please refer to the instructions available from the Mozilla Support page.
Security Messages
Some databases may cause your browser to display a security alert message. Normally you should be cautious about allowing your browser to display content with such a message, but if you are accessing a Library database through a Library link it should be safe to do so.
