The Accepted Manuscript (AM) is the version of a publication that can typically be made 'Open Access' by adding it to the author's institutional repository. At Western, this is the Research Profiles and Repository. This process is also known as self-archiving or as a post-print.

The AM is the final draft version of a scholarly paper that has been accepted for publication by a journal, after peer-review and incorporating any suggested revisions. It will typically include all changes and edits that were made during the peer-review process, before being copyedited or formatted by the publisher.

It is not the submitted version, also known as the preprint.

While preprints can often be made available in institutional repositories too, they have not been through the peer-review process and do not meet the requirements of the ARC and NHMRC Open Access funding mandates.

The proof, or the final published version, has undergone copyediting, typesetting and branding.
