The Field of Research codes are author-nominated. However, Elsevier journals are classified using a different system called ASJC codes and Clarivate journals using NOWT subject classification.
Subject classification systems categorise published research by its subject area. This is done using the aims and scope of the title (e.g., journal), and the content that it publishes. Subject classification codes are used in all bibliographic tools’ providers.
