The Find Full Text feature can search and retrieve the full text of references in your EndNote Library.

Note: Not all providers are compatible with this feature, including Western Sydney University’s authentication system, OpenAthens.

As a result, it may not return many full text PDF files for articles only available via library subscriptions.

To set up the Find Full Text feature:

  1. Open EndNote
  2. Go to the Edit menu and choose Preferences...
  3. Choose Find Full Text
  4. Tick all options
  5. At the OpenURL Path field enter: https://uws.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/view/uresolver/61UWSTSYD_INST/openurl
  6. Leave the Authenticate with URL field blank
  7. Click on OK

To search for the full text of a reference in your library:

  1. Select (highlight) the required references
Click on References > Find Full Text > Find Full Text

If a PDF file is available, it will be added to the reference as an attachment. If a PDF file is not available, it will often attach the URL to the provider’s web page where you can access the full text.

Why Find Full Text does not always work:

Find Full Text does not guarantee a PDF will be found for a number of factors, e.g.

  • Find Full Text is not compatible with all databases and providers, such as OpenAthens.
  • The DOI field of the reference is empty.
  • How the article is published, e.g. there is no PDF or the article is part of a larger PDF of the whole journal issue.

Alternative ways to access the full text:

  • Search the appropriate database via the e-Resources page on the Library website.
  • Use the EndNote Click browser extension.
  • Manually attach a PDF to an existing reference.
  • Import a PDF to create a new reference.
