Provide a short description of the image and place it in square brackets. When you cite in text, remove the square brackets and add quotation marks around the description. Add the medium e.g. photo, painting, drawing, in square brackets after n.d.

Reference list:

[Girl with tattoo] [image]. (n.d.). [Photograph]. Retrieved from http://philsc-images.pitt.edu/eu

In-text citation:

Body art can be observed in all genders  (“Girl with tattoo.” n.d.)

A retrieval date is only required if the content is subject to change over time e.g. wikis, social media posts and free online news websites such as Ninemsn or Huffington Post. If in doubt include the retrieval date or check with your academic.

The official APA website has more information on retrieval dates and referencing a source when elements are missing.
